Becky Lynch to follow in Andre The Giant’s footsteps at Wrestlemania

Becky Lynch is one of the biggest names in wrestling right now, and the popular Irish star could be set to headline Wrestlemania against Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey.

Should Lynch and Rousey close out Wrestlemania 35, it will be the first time two women have main evented WWE’s biggest show, while Lynch will also create more history should it happen.

Only one European wrestler has even been in the main event of a Wrestlemania before, and that was the legendary Andre The Giant in 1987.

Andre, a Frenchman, headlined against Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 3, an iconic show which is one of the most-watched events in the history of professional wrestling.

Over 78,000 people were in attendance in Detroit to watch the match, which finished when Hogan legdropped Andre to retain his WWE Championship.

Lynch was less than three months old at the time, but seems in prime position to become another European success story at Wrestlemania.

The 31-year-old has become a hugely popular star over the past 12 months, with her intense persona beloved by an audience who want to see authenticity in the ring.

One of the worst Royal Rumble matches in history exploded into action in the last moments of the bout in January when Lynch entered despite not being an official competitor.

After winning, she promptly chose former UFC Champion Ronda Rousey as her preferred opponent at Wrestlemania.

The two were expected to clash at Survivor Series last November, before Lynch suffered an in-ring facial injury which kept her out of the match.

Finally, after months of speculation, the most highly-coveted women’s title match in North American history will get its deserved outing at Wrestlemania 35.
