Husband visits wife who tried to kill him to celebrate their anniversary in prison

A terminally-ill man visited his wife in prison to celebrate their wedding anniversary despite the fact she attempted to kill him a number of times.

Hayley Weatherall, 32, was jailed for 15 years in November for plotting to shoot, poison and blow up her husband Ray, 53.

She had planned the killing with her secret lover, Ray’s best friend of 20 years, Glenn Pollard, 49, who was jailed for 17 years for his part in the failed plot.

Glenn’s daughter Heather, 20, was also jailed for 15 years for shooting Ray in the face like a ‘sniper’ in one of the failed attempts on his life.

Despite all that, Ray has decided to forgive and forget, and still visits his wife regularly at Bronzefield Prison in Surrey.

In an anniversary card shared with The Mirror, Hayley wrote to Ray: ‘I am so sorry and I love you more than ever.

‘You and our babies are all that matters to me and nothing and no one will ever come between us I swear.

‘All my love, hugs and kisses, Hayley.’

Ray, who has terminal brain cancer, admitted he had forgiven his wife in November when he appeared on Good Morning Britain.

He said: ‘I’d much love her to come home, but I know that she isn’t going to, not in my lifetime. So I’ve got to deal with the future as it’s fed to me now.

‘She apologised for what she got herself tangled up in and there’s not much we can do about it now.’

For Christmas, he got his wife a Boyzone CD as they are ‘one of her favourite bands’, according to a friend of the couple.

Ray had been told he had just months to live when Heather shot him in the face at Sandwich Marina in Kent in November 2017, but he survived when the bullet hit his right cheekbone.

The shooting triggered a long and intricate Kent Police investigation, revealing the string of murder attempts.

In a swimming pool heater explosion, Ray was left with second degree burns.

He was also poisoned with insulin and Pollard attempted to drown him during a fishing trip, jurors at Maidstone Crown Court were told.

Ray said he believes Glenn was the main instigator of the plot and that his wife was ‘dragged into it’.

He said: ‘I’m disgusted with Glenn and his daughter. Glenn was most certainly the driver of it all. I’m disgusted that my wife for getting involved with it all.’

Their schemes began unravelling after Ray’s niece tipped off police that the trio were trying to kill Ray after she learned of the affair between Glenn and Hayley.

Kent Police raided their homes and recovered the bolt-action rifle that was used to shoot him.

Hundreds of messages between Glenn and Heather, including about how they planned to kill his love rival, were found on mobile phones.

The jury was also told that the numerous events that almost killed Ray were chalked up to ‘accidents’.
