Woman who lured TV executive to his death to become mayoress

A student who lured a TV executive to his death is set to become a mayoress just four years after leaving prison.

Mundill Mahil invited Gagandip Singh, 21, to her flat where he was beaten up by another man, tied up with electrical cord, put in the boot of his car and set on fire.

In 2012, Mahil was jailed for six years in prison for causing grievous bodily harm but was released on licence two years later.

Since then, she has been trying to rebuild her life by becoming a personal trainer and marrying Varinder Singh Bola, who this week announced he is mayor-elect for the borough of Redbridge.

This means Mahil will be free to attend all the glittering social functions by his side as mayoress.

Gagandip’s family have said Mahil’s actions are an insult, particularly because she only served half her sentence in jail.

His sister Amandip Kaur Singh, 26, told MailOnline: ‘My brother’s life was snatched away when it was just about to really begin and as a family we’ve been struggling to deal with it ever since.

‘Yet she’s served a meagre prison sentence, married a high-flying politician and is now trying to ingratiate herself into polite society.

‘Not once has she ever admitted her guilt or apologised to us. She’s moved on and is trying to pretend nothing ever happened.’

During her trial, the court heard how Mahil lured Gagandip to his death in revenge for him sexually assaulting her.

His body was later found in the wreckage of his burnt out Mercedes, 60 miles away near Greenwich Park, in south east London.

Mahil insisted she had no role in the attack but was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm.

Harvinder Shoker was convicted of murder and jailed for a minimum of 22 years while a third man, Darren Peters, was convicted of manslaughter and jailed for 12 years.

Since then, Mahil has desperately tried to forget about her past, throwing herself into a number of different projects.

She has trained as a personal trainer, aromatherapist and masseuse and enjoys photography and doing charity work. She has also launched five websites, which all highlight her achievements and strengths.

In 2016, Mahil married Ilford councillor at the time Mr Bola at Rochester Gurdwara in Kent followed by a large reception at Cobham Hall in Higham.

Mr Bola recently tweeted: ‘I’m over the moon to be confirmed as the Mayor-Elect for the London Borough of Redbridge.’
