WEST HAM vs ARSENAL

West Ham XI: Fabianski, Zabaleta, Ogbonna, Diop, Cresswell, Noble, Rice, Antonio, Nasri, Anderson, Arnautovic

Arsenal XI: Leno, Mustafi, Koscielny, Sokratis, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Guendouzi, Kolasinac, Iwobi, Lacazette, Aubameyang

Twitter round-up

Gareth: Oh dear… Marko Arnautovic and Felipe Anderson will give us major problems today.

Karl: Are the only team in the world who can leave out 350k a week players for tactical reasons but can only afford loans in January. If that doesn’t tell you how much of a cock-up there’s been at the club I don’t know what does!

Jon: Mesut Ozil is finished at Arsenal – I reluctantly accept that now. So, can an unnamed Chinese club please appear as if by magic, bid £50million for him, and then we can all move on?

AMN…

11:45: Ainsley Maitland-Niles believes he can be the answer to Arsenal’s search for a new winger.

The Gunners have been linked with the likes of Denis Suarez and Yannick Carrasco, but head coach Unai Emery has admitted the club have no money to make permanent signings and will instead be shopping in the loan market.

Emery has highlighted the need for a winger and has praised the versatility of England Under-21 international Maitland-Niles.

“I’d like to be a winger,” he told Sky Sports. “I feel comfortable there and I’ve been playing there this season. I was a striker growing up. Thierry Henry was the perfect role model at the time.

“Then everybody started growing but I was still a bit short. As I was still quick, direct and could run at players they thought they would put me on the wing. So up until the age of 16 I was a winger.”

Maitland-Niles has just been interviewed on Sky Sports and spoke extremely well. He also called his versatility a “blessing and a curse,” which is more of the former if you ask me!

Team news – Arsenal

11:40: Where’s Ozil? Not quite sure in all honesty but I’ll find out and let you know ASAP.

He was declared fit by Unai Emery earlier this week but finds himself out of the squad completely.

Arsenal are unchanged from the thumping 4-1 win over Fulham. That means young Ainsley Maitland-Niles starts again at right wing-back.

Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny are passed fit and line up alongside Sokratis Papastathopoulos in a back three. Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal are back on the bench.

Team news – West Ham

11:35: Well the headline news… Samir Nasri starts against his former club. His last Premier League appearance came for Manchester City against the Hammers.

Elsewhere transfer rebel, and I do mean rebel, Marko Arnautovic also starts.

Manuel Pellegrini makes three changes from their last Premier League outing against Brighton.

Nasri in for Andy Carroll, Mark Noble in for Pedro Obiang and Michail Antonio starts ahead of Robert Snodgrass.

The starting XI…

11:30: What a surprise… Mesut Ozil is absent today. Ex-Arsenal star Samir Nasri makes his first Premier League appearance since August 2016.

Arsenal XI: Leno, Mustafi, Koscielny, Sokratis, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Guendouzi, Kolasinac, Iwobi, Lacazette, Aubameyang.

Subs: Cech, Bellerin, Lichtsteiner, Monreal, Torreira, Ramsey, Nketiah.

Twitter round-up

Roger: I remember Trevor Brooking & Geoff Pike scoring in my 1st West Ham vs Arsenal game in 82. I recall Liam Brady scoring a thunderbolt in another win in 87. Who can forget Di Canio’s brace in 99 or Marlon Harewood’s winner in 06? More of the same today please lads!

Paul: Arsenal usually have a terrible habit of allowing ex-Arsenal players who have a revenge mission to score against us. Let’s hope we keep Samir Nasri quiet today and collect three points.

Sooner: Off to the London Stadium, later. We just can’t lose or work will be unbearable and I will have to listen to my cockney loving hammers boss and work colleague go on and on and on… Save me Arsenal, save me….

Six-pointers

11:25: Bit early in the season for the “relegation six-pointer” cliche to be thrown out – but there are a couple of huge games at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Burnley vs Fulham is 16th vs 19th and Cardiff vs Huddersfield is 17th vs 20th.

If I was a betting man I would say they are both nailed-on draws… Nobody will risk losing that, surely? Anyway we’ll also see if Liverpool can shake off back-to-back defeats away at Brighton.

Afternoon

11:20: FA Cup… check. Carabao Cup… check. Dancing with joy the the Premier League has returned… check.

Yes, it’s back and what a fixture to get us underway as Arsenal make the 5.8 mile trip (yes I did Google that) to the London Stadium to play rivals West Ham.

The Hammers have a pretty abysmal record in this fixture having defeated Arsenal once in their last 21 league meetings.

But could that change with the return of former winger Samir Nasri?

OK, he might not strike fear into Arsenal hearts having been sidelined for more than a year, but Manuel Pellegrini won’t stop mentioning the Frenchman’s “revenge” mission…

Anyway, we’re a few moments from finding out the team news and line-ups. Standby…

WEST HAM vs ARSENAL

Fabian Balbuena is the latest addition to West Ham’s long-term injury list. The Paraguayan defender resumed training this week after a knee problem, but suffered a setback and has now undergone surgery which will rule him out for up to eight weeks.

It remains to be seen whether Marko Arnautovic will play after his agent claimed the striker wants to move to China. Jack Wilshere, Manuel Lanzini, Carlos Sanchez, Andriy Yarmolenko, Winston Reid, Javier Hernandez and Ryan Fredericks are all still absent, although the latter pair are due back in training next week.

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery can call on fit-again Mesut Ozil (knee), Laurent Koscielny (back), Hector Bellerin (calf), Konstantinos Mavropanos (groin), Shkodran Mustafi and Nacho Monreal (both hamstring) if required at the London Stadium. It remains to be seen how many will be given the nod by Emery, who remains without the services of Rob Holding (knee), Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Danny Welbeck (both ankle).

Last season: Arsenal 4 West Ham 1, West Ham 0 Arsenal 0

Last five league matches: West Ham W L W L D; Arsenal L W D L W

Top scorers (all competitions): Felipe Anderson & Marko Arnautovic (West Ham) 8; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) 16
