Real Madrid pick between Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho to replace Santiago Solari | Football | Sport

Real Madrid have been linked with Jose Mourinho and Pochettino in recent times amid Solari’s struggles in the Bernabeu hottest.

The Spaniard was brought in to replace Julen Lopetegui back in October, with Lopetegui paying the price for a nightmare start to the La Liga season.

But Solari is experiencing problems at Real Madrid with the club facing a huge battle to win the title.

Los Blancos rarely accept failure and are likely to get rid of Solari if they finish the campaign without a trophy.

As a result, links with Mourinho and Pochettino have arisen.

Mourinho is available, having lost his job at Manchester United last month.

The 55-year-old previously spent three years at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, where he ended the dominance of Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona.

Pochettino, however, is admired by Bernabeu bigwigs.

Yet The Sun say that, as things stand, Real are likelier to pursue Mourinho than Pochettino.

That move, however, could divide the locker room.

Mourinho’s combative nature was why Real sacked him in the first place nearly six years ago.

The Portuguese’s war with Iker Casillas was well-documented.

And Mourinho also clashed with Cristiano Ronaldo, who has since departed, and Sergio Ramos.

The Sun say Tottenham would prefer to lose Pochettino to Real than Manchester United.

But, for now, Mourinho appears to be their No 1 option.

Mourinho, meanwhile, recently hinted he would be open to a Bernabeu comeback.

“They are things that are said and I will not feed,” he said.

“When a coach or a player (in Portugal there is now an example of that) he comes back, it means something positive we did. I felt it when I returned to Chelsea.

“When a professional returns or is invited to return to a club it is a tremendous honour.

“It’s not a gamble in the dark, the clubs are trying to hire a player or a coach they know, they’ve already been there, and if they invite you it’s because they know the value of the person.”
