Man kicked ex-girlfriend’s teeth out after ‘she changed Facebook profile picture’

A domestic abuse survivor has bravely shared pictures of the horrific injuries caused by her ex-boyfriend in a bid to urge other victims to seek help.

Lois Ashton, 29, now has to wear a partial denture after Andrew McNair kicked her so hard in the face she broke her jaw and lost three teeth.

She says he launched his horrendous attack because she changed her Facebook profile picture from an image of the pair of them to one of herself.

Lois said McNair was lovely at first, but as the months went by he became abusive and would hit her across the face.

In two separate incidents he gave her a black eye and smashed up her friend’s house in a fit of rage, but would cry and apologise until she went back to him.

McNair, who was jailed for 36 months, savagely kicked, punched and slapped Lois after he saw she had taken him off her profile picture on Facebook.

The incident happened in December 2016 after Lois, from Liverpool, arranged to go out with her friends, which angered McNair.

She said: ‘He looked annoyed that I was going out and I said “I didn’t think you would want to come on a girls’ night out” and he said “the offer would have been nice”.

‘So I ended up inviting him and he came with me. We went to a pub but he didn’t even sit with us, he just sat in another booth just staring at us.

‘I thought he was acting strange but I was just trying to ignore it and enjoy the night with my girls.’

When they went to her friends house Lois invited him to join, but he declined and gave her a kiss.

He began to message her, saying she had picked her friends over him and her friends convinced her to turn her phone off to enjoy her night.

When she went to bed that night she changed her profile picture on Facebook from one of her and McNair to one on her own.

When she woke up she was horrified to see McNair standing over her.

She said: ‘He was standing on my legs screaming at me. I managed to run outside and was banging on the neighbour’s door for help but no-one answered.

‘He came outside and locked the door and threw away the key so my friend couldn’t help me. And then he just started punching and slapping me.

‘He kicked me in the side of the head and it knocked me over.

‘He then booted me three times in the face and knocked my teeth out.

‘One of my teeth actually went up into my nasal cavity and if I put my finger up my nose I could feel my tooth.

‘I thought I was going to die. There was so much blood.’

She moved into a domestic violence refuge for women, but fear stopped her from reporting him to the police.

But when he continued to abuse her, she decided to tell authorities what he had done.

She said: ‘I wear a partial denture now at the age of 29. I struggle with face to face contact with people, especially men.

‘I still haven’t fully recovered and I have flashbacks and have been diagnosed with PTSD.

‘I even get nervous when there is a knock at the door.’

McNair was jailed 36 months in prison in November 2017, after admitting to the assault. He was released only 11 months into his sentence.

Lois said: ‘This was basically all because I changed my profile picture from one of me and him to just one of me and it sent him over the edge.

‘In court the judge even said how he had watched my ex just stare at me the whole way through the case.

‘He was released after 11 months and is out now living his life, like what he did was a minor incident.

‘I would say to other women and men to just leave at the first sign of violence. If I had, my life would have been so different now.’
