That’s the opinion of ESPN pundit Paul Mariner.
The attacking midfielder is not enjoying his time in Barcelona of late.
His start in the Copa del Rey defeat at Levante was his first since the Champions League draw with Tottenham at the start of December.
Now there is growing feeling that the Catalans maybe preparing to sell the Brazilian.
The board are keen on bringing Neymar back to the Camp Nou and Coutinho’s sale could well pave the way for the PSG star’s return.
“For United that’s fantastic but it would be a miss for him,” he said.
The Red Devils would face a difficult task in persuading Coutinho to come to Manchester, given his ties to Liverpool.
“I don’t know why he would want to go,” he added.
“I don’t know why Barcelona would want to sell such a fantastic player.
“Yes [Ousmane] Dembele has come in and done very, very well of late.
“Coutinho is a proven quality player.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be in charge until the end of the season and the uncertainty over who will manage the club next may prevent them from signing a player of Coutinho’s quality according to Mariner.
He said: “Would you go from Barcelona to Man United in the state that Man United are currently in at the moment?
“They’re not sure about who the manager is going to be.
“I’m going to say young man [Coutinho], stay where you are.”
