The 32-year-old Channel 4 favourite usually keeps her love life with Strictly Come Dancing professional Pasha, 38, out of the spotlight, but was urged to speak out by Countdown host Nick Hewer, 74, on the gameshow. The presenter opened the show by revealing a study by scientists had found it was heather for people to sleep apart from their significant other. “The vast majority of couples say they would prefer to sleep together,” he said. “However, there has been sea change, which I think is slightly worrying.
“It says that sleeping alone or part is becoming more popular,” Nick continued, as Rachel Riley listened on expectantly. “19 per cent of women prefer to sleep apart from their loved ones, their romantic partners. Whereas the men more or less stick with it, with only 11 per cent.
“I don’t mean to be personal, I don’t mean to be intrusive, I don’t mean to embarrass you in any sense at all,” he continued, as Rachel giggled. “But I’m going to ask you a question: do you or do you not prefer to sleep with or without your romantic partner?”
“I’m definitely with my romantic partner,” the blonde beauty replied, joking: “Has this been commissioned by a single bed salesman?
“There are a lot of things that you can get up to when you’re together in a bed that are probably good for your health as well,” she said cheekily. “So I would question that survey.”
The Countdown star added: “I can’t question how you sleep, Nick, but I know some men get a little bit more snorey as they get older.”
“So do some women!” he quipped, causing Rachel to fall about laughing.
Rachel first met Pasha when they were paired up on Strictly in 2013.
She subsequently split from her husband and later struck up a romance with the Russian-born dancer.
They now live together in London and the mathematician has been on multiple trips to Pasha’s home country with him and has even begun learning Russian.
The sexy star first found fame when she replaced Carol Vorderman, 57, on Countdown in 2009.
She has since gone on to appear in the comedy spin-off series 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown alongside her co-star Susie Dent, 54.
Susie recently hinted at plans for a new show with Rachel in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk.
“I’d love to do a show with Rachel,” she said. “We think it would be fantastic to do a show with language and maths. So that’s something we would love to do together that we’re thinking about.
“It could one for kids,” Susie continued. “It could be quiz-based or it could be an exploratory one.
“We just think it would be really fun and that there is an appetite for it.”
Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
