Boy, 14, arrested after discovery of massive cannabis farm

A teenage boy was arrested after a machete and an entire cannabis factory was found during a police raid.

Officers descended on the property after locals reported seeing a number of men acting suspiciously outside the address.

They discovered 72 plants, along with a weapon, although it not clear what this was used for.

The discovery was made at 11.20pm on Thursday and a 20-year-old man, from Toxteth, was arrested at the scene while a second youth, aged just 14, from Aigburth, was detained and both were taken away for questioning.

The pair were arrested on suspicion of burglary, cannabis cultivation and possession of a controlled drug and possession of an offensive weapon.

Detective Inspector Phil Mahon, of Merseyside Police, said: ‘Criminal groups involved in the cultivation of cannabis are often involved in other serious organised crime which brings significant harm to those communities.

‘But each seizure represents money being taken from the pockets of criminals and we encourage members of the communities to report any concerns to police.

‘Nobody wants to live close to these death traps, so please be aware of the signs that someone may have a cannabis farm near to you and let us know.

‘We will act on all in information to remove them and make the communities safer.’

Anyone with information on suspected cannabis farms in their area is asked to contact the social media desk @MerPolCC, call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
