Huntswoman facing jail for whipping saboteur is killed in riding accident

A woman who was facing jail for whipping a hunt saboteur has died in a riding accident.

Jane Goring, 57, fell from her horse on Wednesday during a drag hunt – a sport where riders and hounds chase an artificial scent.

Mid Surrey Farmers’ Draghounds wrote on Facebook: ‘We very much regret to inform you that Jane Goring was tragically killed whilst out dragging yesterday at Leigh.

‘On behalf of the masters and members of the drag hunt, we send our condolences and thoughts to Richard and Jane’s family at this awful time.’

Relative Alice Goring wrote on Facebook: ‘The cruelest reminder to live every day, because you never quite know when your time may be up. Sleep tight Jane, we will never ever forget you.

‘Thank you for everything and for making our grandpa so incredibly happy, something we will never forget and always love you for. We will miss you so much – you really were one of life’s legends, with the bestest laugh I have ever heard.

‘So many amazing memories, you will never be forgotten and we so wish you didn’t have to leave so fast. Will always remember this photo as the day we arrived late to Ascot and you had to practically run over everyone’s picnics to get us there.

‘You were such a special lady and have left so many kisses on everyone’s hearts.’

Despite her death some anti-hunt saboteurs took the opportunity to mock Mrs Goring’s death.

Some said it was karma while another from the group Stop the Cull said ‘she won’t be missed by us’.

Footage was released last year by hunt saboteurs showing Mrs Goring shouting ‘get off my horse’ while whipping a man 17 times.

It was filmed during a ride by the East Sussex and Romney Marsh Hunt Club in Pevensey, East Sussex.

The saboteurs claim she used her horse to push them back while another masked man rushes in front of the horse, taking hold of the bridle.

The group insists it was the victim of an unprovoked attack and claim Mrs Goring simply ‘lost the plot’.

Police concluded that there was insufficient evidence and dropped the case.

However last month she appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court to face two criminal charges through a civil prosecution.

She denies beating Simon Medhurst with her whip and Shirley Makin with her horse.
