Conor McGregor to come face-to-face with Khabib Nurmagomedov next Thursday
Conor McGregor will face-off with Khabib Nurmagomedov at a press conference before their UFC 229 grudge match, the promotion have announced.
McGregor’s first showdown with Nurmagomedov since his rampage at the UFC 223 media day, where he threw a dolly through the window of a bus carrying his successor at the summit of the lightweight division and his fellow fighters, will take place at the Radio City Music Hall in New York next Thursday.
The press conference will get underway at 10pm BST time (5:00pm ET / 3:00 PT).
Unfortunately for fans hoping to get a glimpse of the pair in person, the event is only open to members of the media.
Conor McGregor sends message to Khabib Nurmagomedov and fans
McGregor has warned Nurmagomedov that he’ll be fighting a ‘caged animal’ at UFC 229 and told his critics that he can only be judged by God.
Alongside an Instagram picture of himself with his hands in the air during a training session at SBG Ireland, McGregor wrote: “Ireland’s caged animal only God can judge me.”
Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov prediction from Tyron Woodley
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley believes Nurmagomedov could get ‘lit up’ by McGregor early in their grudge match if he attempts to close the distance in a reckless manner.
“These guys are each other’s kryptonite,” ‘The Chosen One’ said during an appearance on ESPN’s ‘Ariel and The Bad Guy’. “If Khabib can clobber and pressure Conor McGregor on a full camp – Chad Mendes had half the reach and didn’t have a full camp and he was able to do it.
“But the timing of Conor McGregor, I mean, he might be one of the best at that in the game.
“So I think if Khabib comes forward with his head wide open for some straight lefts, he might get lit up. So it really depends on who’s going to close the gap the best. And it’s going to be early.
“If Khabib starts pressuring him in the first round and has success, that’s the fight. If Conor can catch him and slip him, we might see him getting TKO’d.”
